Digitization and Digital Preservation: Strategies for COPPUL Libraries
Friday April 20, 2012, 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
University of Calgary Taylor Family Digital Library
Organized by the COPPUL Digital Curation and Preservation Group and the COPPUL PLN Steering Committee, this day-long workshop will feature presentations and small group discussions geared to helping participants move forward with digital preservation. The workshop, funded by COPPUL, is limited to a maximum of 40 participants, with a seat for each COPPUL library. Participants are responsible for their own travel and accommodation.
Workshop Outcomes:
Through pre-readings and workshop discussions, participants will have a common level of understanding of the principles and issues around digital preservation
Participants will be up to date on the current activities of COPPUL libraries, as well as selected preservation initiatives elsewhere in Canada.
Participants will establish contacts for further discussion and collaboration
Participants will have tools to assess their library’s level of readiness to begin digital preservation initiatives
Registration information – Please consult with your Director before registering. The registration deadline for COPPUL seats is February 24, 2012. Remaining spots will be filled on a first-come-first-served basis. Fill in the registration form here
Accommodation information – If you wish to come the day before, rooms are available at the Hotel Alma, conveniently located on campus, and at the Best Western Village Park Inn (ask for the Canadian government rate), a short walk or C-train ride from campus.
For those coming on April 20, the Calgary airport is a 45 minute cab ride from campus.
